RE: Anti-Semitic Attacks in New York Metro Area

FROM: Most Reverend John O. Barres, Bishop of the Diocese of Rockville Centre

On behalf of the Catholics of Long Island, I would like to express our deep sense of solidarity with our Jewish neighbors and friends at this difficult time. We grieve at the recent violent attacks directed at the Jewish community in the NY metro region. We pray that our civil authorities will work diligently to bring those responsible to justice and to prevent any further violence throughout our nation. For the Jewish community this is a moment of fear. These are acts of intimidation that intend to conjure terrors from the past. I urge all of our Catholic faithful to reach out to their Jewish friends and assure them of our support. For generations we have shared life on this island, visiting in one another’s homes, churches, and synagogues. May this blessing of community be a source of consolation and strength to us all.
