On Sunday, Sept. 2, Bishop John Barres made pastoral visits to the parishes of SS. Cyril & Methodius, Deer Park, and St. Elizabeth of Hungary, Melville.

The bishop celebrated Mass at both churches and greeted parishioners before and after each service.

At St. Elizabeth, Bishop Barres and members of the parish got their first view of the church’s recently renovated sanctuary. The focal point of the space is a marble altar that features a mosaic of the Last Supper. The altar was once a part of the sanctuary at St. Stephen of Hungary Church in the Diocese of Allentown, Pennsylvania, where Bishop Barres previously served before arriving in the Diocese of Rockville Centre last year.
