Special indulgences are available to people afflicted with COVID-19, those in quarantine, medical personnel caring for coronavirus patients and to all those who are praying for them.
Pope Francis will celebrate all of the Holy Week and Easter liturgies: Palm Sunday, the chrism Mass, the Mass of the Lord's Supper, the liturgy of the Passion of the Lord, the Easter vigil Mass and Easter morning Mass.
The pope was entrusting the city of Rome, Italy and the world to the protection of Our Lady during this time of a major health emergency, as a sign of hope and salvation.
"We should not forget this: to live the law as an instrument of liberty that helps me be freer, that helps me not be a slave to passions and sin," he said.
The 'Sunday of the Word of God" is an invitation to Catholics across the world to deepen their appreciation, love and faithful witness to God and His word.
