Chaminade senior Matt Vowinkel scored two goals, including the game-winner in the second overtime, to lift the Flyers to a 2-1 victory over St. Anthony’s in the Nassau-Suffolk  Catholic High School Athletic Association (CHSAA) boys soccer championship Nov. 6 at Adelphi University. Vowinkel, the league’s most valuable player this season, was named the game’s MVP. The Flyers have won back-to-back CHSAA title games and 15 championships overall. Senior Giancarlo Franco netted St. Anthony’s lone goal, which knotted the game in the first half. With the win Chaminade (16-3-2) earned a berth against New York City Catholic league champ Fordham Prep in the CHSAA state semifinals Friday at St. John’s University. The loss was the first for St. Anthony’s (18-2-3) in league competition this season.
