A group of students and faculty members from Chaminade High School in Mineola made a pilgrimage to St. Patrick’s Cathedral in Manhattan December 6. ¬†Gathering at 8:00, the group took the Long Island Railroad from Mineola to Penn Station and then walked the rest of the way to the cathedral of the Archdiocese of New York. ¬†The group had seats reserved in the front section of the packed cathedral. Cardinal Timothy Dolan was the main celebrant of the 10:15 Solemn Mass for the Second Sunday of Advent. Four students had the opportunity to participate in the Offertory Procession. At the end of Mass, Cardinal Dolan even included a prayer to Blessed William Joseph Chaminade.

After Mass, Cardinal Dolan met the group on the main altar and spoke with them for a little while before posing for a group photo. Then Msgr. Ritchie, Rector of the Cathedral, treated all in the group to a sneak preview of a soon-to-be-unveiled presepio (Nativity scene and surrounding village) from the town of Basilicata in southern Italy. A small group of students also had the opportunity to see the sacristy and crypt underneath the main altar. Everyone also had some time to view and admire the newly-renovated Cathedral.
