The Diocese of Rockville Centre announced June 27 that it is repositioning its Catholic education operations to help ensure a firm foundation for Catholic education in the Diocese in the future.
“After much prayer and reflection and consistent with the purpose of the 2011 Strategic Plan for Catholic Education, I have become convinced that repositioning our diocesan Education operations will be an effective way to ensure into the future a firm foundation for Catholic education in our diocese,” said the Bishop William Murphy, bishop, Diocese of Rockville Centre.
The repositioning includes the following elements:
1. The Department of Education, Diocese of Rockville Centre (“Education Corporation”), a corporation under New York State law and an entity the diocese has had in place for many years, will become the main entity through which day-to-day diocesan educational initiatives and operations are planned and conducted.
2. Sister Joanne Callahan, OSU, who has served in the role of Superintendent of Schools since 1993, will assume the new role of Diocesan Secretary of Education, serving on the Board of the Education Corporation and continuing to provide her invaluable expertise in operating Diocesan Catholic schools.
3. A search will begin to fill the position of Superintendent of Schools. Sister Joanne will continue to serve as Superintendent of Schools until a new superintendent has been appointed.
