Four seminarians from the Diocese of Rockville Centre took a major step on their journey to the priesthood when they were ordained to the transitional diaconate Nov. 5 by Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio of Brooklyn at St. Joseph’s Seminary, Yonkers. Liam McDonald, Michael Plona, Christopher Sullivan and John Wachowicz, along with eight seminarians from the Diocese of Brooklyn and four from the Archdiocese of New York, were ordained during Mass in the seminary chapel. They will serve in the following parishes until their ordination to the priesthood next spring: Deacon McDonald (home parish: St. Rose of Lima, Massapequa) will minister at St. Elizabeth, Melville; Deacon Plona (St. William the Abbot, Seaford) will minister at Our Lady of Loretto, Hempstead; Deacon Sullivan (St. Patrick, Bay Shore) will minister at St. Kilian, Farmingdale; and Deacon Wachowicz (St. Mary, Manhasset) will minister at St. Hugh of Lincoln, Huntington Station. A fifth member of the diocese’s priesthood Class of 2017, Deacon Michael Bissex of St. Matthew Parish, Dix Hills, is a seminarian at Pontifical North American College in Rome and was ordained to the diaconate by Boston Cardinal Sean P. O’Malley in St. Peter’s Basilica in September.
