Our Lady of the Hamptons students Olivia Valle and Kate Wilkie gathered over 25 Girls Scouts from Southampton Service Unit 62 at the Britches For Boys Sewing Event which took place at the Basilica of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Parish Center on June 9. The Girl Scouts were instructed by Margauerite Schondebare from Mission to Heal on how to make britches for boys out of large men’s t-shirts. Olivia and Kate collected over 250 shirts for Mission to Heal and were able to make about 25 pairs of pants during their sewing party. These britches will be taken on medical missions and will be handed out to boys in third world countries. The pants are equipped with a whistle in the pocket for the boys to use if they are in danger, if they need medical attention in a hospital, or it can be used as a toy. The event was a huge success and the girls plan to run another event in the fall.
