Bishop William Murphy and the diocesan auxiliary bishops marked the final days of the Extraordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy by celebrating Masses and closing the Holy Doors of Mercy at the diocese’s four designated pilgrimage sites. Bishop Murphy presided at the service at the Basilica of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary, Southampton, on Nov. 10, while Bishops Nelson Perez (Immaculate Conception Seminary, Huntington, Nov. 9), Robert Brennan (Our Lady of the Island Shrine, Eastport, Nov. 12) and Andrzej Zglejszewski (St. Agnes Cathedral, Rockville Centre, Nov. 12) celebrated liturgies at the other venues. The Holy Year will formally come to an end when Pope Francis closes the Holy Door at St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome on Nov. 20, the feast of Christ the King. Here is a gallery of images from the service in Eastport, where Bishop Brennan was joined by Montfort Father Roy Tvrdik, the shrine’s director, and more than 400 pilgrims.  Photos by Gregory A.
