Dark skies and heavy rain didn’t dampen the spirits of the more than 30 young adults from across Long Island who gathered Tuesday evening, July 17, for a few hours of fellowship and prayer at the Basilica of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary in Southampton.
The “Millennial Missionaries” event was hosted by Bishop John Barres and the diocese’s Young Adult Ministry.
Despite not being able to enjoy lawn games and outdoor dining, participants made the most of their time in the parish auditorium, where they socialized, played Jenga and cornhole, and were treated to a barbecue meal prepared by Sacred Hearts’ Knights of Columbus.
Bishop Barres, who was joined by several diocesan priests and seminarians, mingled with his guests during dinner and later led the group to the basilica, where he presided at Eucharistic adoration.
The evening concluded with ice cream and additional social time in the auditorium.
