Father Kevin Smith, pastor of St. Dominic’s Church in Oyster Bay, was installed as the associate national chaplain of the National Catholic Committee on Scouting at the committee’s recent annual meeting in St. Louis.

Father Smith served as diocesan scouting chaplain from 1991 to 1997 and the New York State regional chaplain from 1998 until 2013. He has also served catholic scouting as chaplain at Philmont Scout Ranch; course chaplain for a national training program, “Scouting in the Catholic Church” and has been affiliated with NCCS’s high adventure vocation retreat, the “Saint George Trek” since its inception as participant, course director and advisor.

In the photo, Father Smith, left is congratulated by the Bishop Robert Guglielmone of the Diocese of Charleston, bishop liaison to the Boy Scouts of America and the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. Bishop Guglielmone, a past national chaplain, proceeded Father Smith as the Scout Chaplain for the Diocese of Rockville Centre.
