Last week the Holy See issued publicly the Lineamenta including questions that will form the basis for consultation for the upcoming XIV Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops, scheduled to take place in October 2015 on the theme of, “The Vocation and Mission of the Family in the Church and the Contemporary World.” (See previous blog on the topic here.)
At that time, Cardinal Lorenzo Baldisseri, General Secretary of the Synod of Bishops indicated that Episcopal Conferences, which for us in the United States is the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, will receive soon the official copy, translated into English, along with instructions. We currently await this official copy and instruction.
As soon as we receive the material, we will disseminate it by use of our diocesan website —drvc.org, which is the most helpful way to garner reactions and transmit them verbatim first to the USCCB and, through the Conference, to the Synod Office for the working document which will form the basis for the Synod discussions next fall.
We welcome comments from any person who wishes to do so but we must have them to the USCCB by March 20, 2015, which means we in the Diocese of Rockville Centre will need to be in receipt of them in electronic form by March 12, 2015. Again, more details will be provided when the official documents are made available. I encourage you to periodically check in to the Diocesan website and this website for updates on this process.
My prayers to you and your family during this season of Advent.
