Bishop John Barres gathered with priests in the diocese marking the 25th and 50th anniversaries of their ordination for Mass in the Holy Cross Chapel in Rockville Centre. On Tuesday evening May 15, the jubilarians shared in the Eucharist ahead of a relaxed evening featuring supper and fraternal time in the Bishop’s residence. During the Mass Bishop Barres delivered an inspiring message reflecting on how the Holy Spirit has guided the priests in their vocations, recalling how they have been sustained through both trials and successes, and led to a deeper sense of service. Bishop Barres mentioned Pope Francis’ new apostolic exhortation, Gaudete et Exsultate (Rejoice and Be Glad) and encouraged his brother priests to not be afraid of holiness and to be open to how the Lord draws each of them closer to Himself.  Bishop Barres lead the prayer of the faithful remembering the priests’ families, those who were instrumental in their vocations, and those priests who came before them who were instrumental in their early and formative years in ministry.
