RE: Anti-Semitic Vandalism at Holocaust Memorial and Tolerance Center

FROM: Most Reverend John O. Barres, Bishop of Rockville Centre

For a number of years the Roman Catholic Diocese of Rockville Centre has collaborated with the Holocaust Memorial and Tolerance Center of Nassau County in Glen Cove which has offered programs for our schools and health care institutions. Anti-Semitic vandalism has disrupted its tranquil campus twice this past month. These expressions of hatred have renewed our need to highlight that the Catholic Church condemns all forms of anti-Semitism as contrary to the very nature of the Catholic faith. Jewish people are our brothers and sisters and our ancestors in faith. Any attack on them is an attack on all of us. We thus stand in solidarity with the Jewish community of Long Island and urge all people to work together in rooting out any form of prejudice, hatred, and the insidiousness of anti-Semitism.
