Bishop John Barres marked Ash Wednesday—the first day of the penitential season of Lent—by praying with faith communities at two parishes and a pair of colleges. The bishop began the public portion of his schedule by celebrating the 9 a.m. Mass at St. Agnes Cathedral, Rockville Centre. Afterward, he traveled to St. William the Abbot Church, Seaford, where he visited the parish school and presided at a noon Mass. Later in the day Bishop Barres led an Ash Wednesday prayer service at 5:15 at Hofstra University, Hempstead, before continuing east to LIU-Post, Brookville, where he celebrated an 8:00 Mass for the campus community. Below are galleries of images from the bishop’s campus visits.
