Rockville Centre Bishop John O. Barres has appointed Msgr. William E. Koenig Vicar of Clergy Personnel for the Diocese and Father Michael Duffy as Rector of St. Agnes Cathedral. These appointments become effective on August 26, 2020.
Msgr. Koenig has served as rector of the Cathedral of Saint Agnes since 2009. Previously, he served as pastor of the Parish of Saint William the Abbot, Seaford. Born in Queens and raised in East Meadow, Msgr. Koenig attended Saint Pius X Preparatory Seminary, Uniondale; Cathedral College of the Immaculate Conception, Douglaston, and the Seminary of the Immaculate Conception, Huntington.
Ordained to the priesthood on May 14, 1983, Msgr. Koenig served at Saint Edward the Confessor, Syosset,and Saint James, Setauket. He was appointed director of diocesan vocations in 1989 and director of the Office of Ministry to Priests in 1990. He also served at the Cathedral of Saint Agnes from 1996-2000 before being named pastor of Saint William the Abbot. In June 2007, Pope Benedict XVI conferred the papal honor of monsignor on then Father Koenig.
Father Duffy has served as the pastor of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, Malverne, since June 2017. At the time of his appointment, Father Duffy was the youngest pastor in the history of the Diocese of Rockville Centre. From 2016-2019, Father Duffy served as the Catholic Chaplain of Long Island University at Post in Brookville. Ordained in June 2012, Father Duffy was first assigned as an associate pastor of Saint Kilian, Farmingdale.
Father Duffy graduated from MacArthur High School in Levittown. He attended Fordham University where he studied at the Rose Hill Campus, earning a Bachelor’s degree with a major in Philosophy and a minor in Theology. He then entered the Seminary of the Immaculate Conception in Huntington where he earned a Master’s degree in Divinity as well as a Master’s degree in Theology. Father Duffy recently completed a Master’s degree in Ecclesiastical Administration from The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C.
