A group of students and faculty members from Chaminade High School in Mineola made a pilgrimage to St. Patrick’s Cathedral in Manhattan December 6.  Gathering at 8:00, the group took the Long Island Railroad from Mineola to Penn Station and then walked the rest of the way to the cathedral of the Archdiocese of New York.  The group had seats reserved in the front section of the packed cathedral. Cardinal Timothy Dolan was the main celebrant of the 10:15 Solemn Mass for the Second Sunday of Advent. Four students had the opportunity to participate in the Offertory Procession. At the end of Mass, Cardinal Dolan even included a prayer to Blessed William Joseph Chaminade.

After Mass, Cardinal Dolan met the group on the main altar and spoke with them for a little while before posing for a group photo. Then Msgr. Ritchie, Rector of the Cathedral, treated all in the group to a sneak preview of a soon-to-be-unveiled presepio (Nativity scene and surrounding village) from the town of Basilicata in southern Italy. A small group of students also had the opportunity to see the sacristy and crypt underneath the main altar. Everyone also had some time to view and admire the newly-renovated Cathedral.
