Mary McMahon

ROCKVILLE CENTRE — Mary F. McMahon, LCSW, has been appointed director of the Office for the Protection of Children and Young People for the Diocese of Rockville Centre effective immediately. She succeeds Eileen Puglisi, the first director of the office, who retired on February 1. The Office for the Protection of Children and Young People is located in the Pastoral Center of the Diocese in Rockville Centre.

McMahon comes highly qualified and familiar with the Diocese of Rockville Centre. She is a licensed social worker and has served the Parish of Our Lady of Lourdes, West Islip, as its business manager and director of parish social ministry/outreach. McMahon has also served as a social worker at Good Samaritan Medical Center, West Islip.

“Meeting with Mary last week I know her outgoing and energetic style will serve her well as she continues and builds upon the outstanding work of our first director, Eileen Puglisi,” said Bishop William Murphy, bishop, Diocese of Rockville Centre.

“I am grateful to Eileen Puglisi for her dedication and hard work during her tenure as director,” said Bishop Murphy. “As our first director of the Office for the Protection of Children and Young People, it was Eileen Puglisi who implemented the policies and procedures of the Dallas Charter across this Diocese and ensured that in every year she has been here, our Diocese was in full compliance with the Charter. Eileen’s leadership in building relationships with law enforcement, the Offices of the District Attorney in both Nassau and Suffolk Counties, and her working to make sure our parishes and schools are safe zones for children and young people mean a great deal to the Diocese of Rockville Centre.”
