The parish of Our Lady of Mount Carmel celebrated the Enthronement of the Holy Child Jesus with a novena, Mass and a procession around the Patchogue area on Saturday, July 28.
Devotion to the Santo Niño (Holy Child), an image of Jesus as a small boy typically dressed as a king, is a mainstay of Filipino Catholics, who typically have a statue in their homes. Filipino Archbishop Bernardito Auza, the permanent observer of the Holy See to the United Nations, was a special guest at the celebration, blessing the parish’s statue as well as those brought in by families.
